Designing a festival pavilion, the design of a temporary hotel and designing a self-building theatre set: Daniëlle’s work as a spatial designer ranges from art installations and escape rooms to production design for film and television. She approaches every space with a cinematic eye, where the substantive question, the location and the concept merge into a beautiful and practically feasible design.
Danielle has more than 15 years in film and television, preceded by a Production Design education at the Netherlands Film Academy and a study in Theatre, Film and Television Studies. This background ensures that Daniëlle can effortlessly adapt to various styles and atmospheres and chooses a substantive approach.
In her work, she lets her creativity and pragmatic approach go hand in hand.
Examples include the design of the Sleepcinemahotel by Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul for the IFFR and the set that seems to build itself for the theatrical installation Bram finds Space by artist Bram van Helden. Partly because of these projects, Daniëlle is investigating how she can also use her experience as Art Director and Production Designer for designs and projects that have more substantive meaning and a longer relevance than the transience that sometimes characterizes film and television. To this end, she seeks collaborations with artists, designers, writers and other makers, in which she gives shape to the spatial form of their ideas.
Research question:
How can I use my cinematic perspective and knowledge to realize immersive installations that go beyond the boundaries of a single medium such as film or theater?
