Robin Alysha Clemens

Robin Alysha Clemens (1992) is an artist from Amsterdam working with photography, film, and text. Clemens’ socio-cultural projects intersect documentary and art, delving into a quest for identity, a sense of home, and community. These projects explore the daily lives of ‘the other’ (the intriguing as well as the mundane), seeking stories from the fringes, uncovering non-conformists, and marginalized individuals to challenge stigmas and prejudices.

In 2016, Clemens graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. She has exhibited work at ART Rotterdam, Helsinki Photo Festival, NARS Foundation in New York, Melkweg Expo, and TETEM, among others. As a freelance photographer, Clemens often collaborates with journalistic and cultural clients such as Oerol, Das Mag, Utrecht University, Het Parool, Into The Great Wide Open, and serves as a house photographer for various musicians and festivals.

During ‘Vrijplaats op Maat’, Robin aims to explore how she can push the boundaries of the documentary genre in her work. Increasingly, she experiments with staging and mise-en-scène to intensify the gray area between reality, representation, fiction, and art. In this Vrijplaats, she seeks to elevate this process to a new level.
