Multiple Voices – Inclusivity in Storytelling September 2023
Two workshops will take place in 2023; in March and in September. The exact date has yet to be determined.
The need for inclusive and diverse stories is great. But who tells them? And with and for whom? In the Multiple Voices-Inclusive Storytelling workshop, we work with screenwriters, directors, producers, editors, production designers, cameramen and everyone involved in making and/or shaping a film or AV project with the different perspectives from which stories are told. told.
During this three-day workshop, the questions of representation, diversity and inclusion that arise when making a film or AV project will be central, and we will look for the lens through which you look at the world. We explore how your story compares to mainstream stories, and how certain perspectives determine which films and stories we like and which characters we want to identify with.
We do this on the basis of inspiring examples and case studies, conversations with filmmakers and on the basis of your own project. This can be a project in development, or an existing production in which you have encountered these questions.
The workshop is led by Winnie Roseval (diversity & inclusion consultant and researcher at the Inclusive Education research group, The Hague University of Applied Sciences)
Multiple Voices-Inclusive Storytelling is a three-day workshop developed by FilmFoward in collaboration with Winnie Roseval. During these three days, the participants will discuss several case studies, talks will take place with filmmakers and their own work will be examined.
Day 1: Positionality training (1) & case study
Day 2: Positionality training (2) & interview with filmmakers
Day 3: Own case or project
We start the workshop with the first part of the positonality training led by philosopher and researcher in inclusiveness Winnie Roseval. How can we make room for different stories and perspectives?
In the afternoon a film will be shown that serves as an example of inclusive filmmaking.
On the second day of the workshop we continue with Winnie Roseval’s positionality training.
In the afternoon filmmakers are guests and we have a conversation about the perspectives in their work.
The third day is dedicated to your own practical example. This could be a project in development, an ongoing project or an already completed project where you specifically ran into something or felt in an awkward situation. Winnie Roseval will analyze these projects and situations with you and provide tools to deal with them. On this day we will work towards tools and an action plan for the next steps in your own creative process.
Who is it for?
