Matthijs Vuijk (1995, NL) is an artist \/ filmmaker with a diverse background in photography, film, and virtual reality. Through various media, he explores the emotional influence of time, politics, and socio-cultural changes by depicting the subjective experience. In his attempt to understand how large societal change processes slowly trickle down to smaller, more isolated communities.<\/p>\n
After studying photography at the Royal Academy of the Arts (KASK) in Ghent, Belgium, he pursued a Bachelor Honours in Film & Television at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Matthijs’ collaborative graduation film,\u00a0Sikelela Tapes<\/em>\u00a0(2020), was selected for the prestigious International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). He is currently working on his project\u00a0Church of Glass<\/em>, which encapsulates the production of a mid-length documentary and a virtual reality installation. With this project he participated in the Venice Biennale Cinema College – Immersive and presented the project in the 2025 Venice Production Bridge – Financing Gap Market.<\/p>\n Matthijs also works as a freelance cinematographer for documentaries.<\/p>\n
