Pip Williamson

Pip Williamson is a freelance 2D animator whose depth of commercial experience brings an audience-first eye to the Vrijplaats group. After gaining recognition for her work on the BAFTA-winning video game Thank Goodness You’re Here, she is now exploring how interactive storytelling can be enriched by reconnecting with its physical, tactile origins. In parallel, she is delving into her own family history—examining themes of memory, belonging, and national identity—as the foundation for her artistic debut. Together, these strands form a dialogue between the personal and the participatory, investigating how stories shape us when we can touch them, and how we shape stories when they begin with who we are.

Research Question: How can interactive animation and analog/sensory touch points be leveraged to explore the nature of a dual/mixed heritage? How can such a story benefit from Pip’s own experience as a third-generation British-Jamaican yearning to connect to an ancestral homeland?
