Film festivals are essential for promoting and positioning your film. But how do you approach the festival strategy of your film? During this Masterclass, festival curator Nikolaj Nikitin will take you into the world of film festivals. A day later, Nikolaj will also lead a Deep Dive a day after this Masterclass, in which teams of directors, producers, and editors can develop their film’s festival strategy in a group setting. Let op: de voertaal van dit programma is Engels.
Festivals are becoming increasingly important for securing funding and co-production partners, and for expanding your international network as a professional. It can be difficult to navigate the offerings of film festivals: which festival best suits your target audience? How do you find the festival terms and conditions to determine if you can submit your film? And how do film festivals curate the selection of films they screen?
Festival curator Nikolaj Nikitin will provide the ins and outs of the international film festival circuit. Nikolaj is Artistic Director of the European Film Festival Palić, curator of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), and was the delegate of the Berlinale. Drawing on insights from various festivals around the world, he advises in this Masterclass on how to prepare your festival strategy. This includes which film festivals to approach, how to clearly position your film in your submission, and other opportunities for visiting festivals, such as markets or professional days.
Additionally, Nathalie Mierop, Director of SEE NL, will provide advice specifically aimed at Dutch films and filmmakers. SEE NL is the institute that, with support from the Netherlands Film Fund, promotes Dutch films and film professionals worldwide.
