Matthijs Vuijk

Matthijs Vuijk (1995, NL) is an artist / filmmaker with a diverse background in photography, film, and virtual reality. Through various media, he explores the emotional influence of time, politics, and socio-cultural changes by depicting the subjective experience. In his attempt to understand how large societal change processes slowly trickle down to smaller, more isolated communities.

After studying photography at the Royal Academy of the Arts (KASK) in Ghent, Belgium, he pursued a Bachelor Honours in Film & Television at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Matthijs’ collaborative graduation film, Sikelela Tapes (2020), was selected for the prestigious International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). He is currently working on his project Church of Glass, which encapsulates the production of a mid-length documentary and a virtual reality installation. With this project he participated in the Venice Biennale Cinema College – Immersive and presented the project in the 2025 Venice Production Bridge – Financing Gap Market.

Matthijs also works as a freelance cinematographer for documentaries.
