Berte Spoelstra

Berthe Spoelstra is a dramaturge, writer, and program leader at the Amsterdamse Regieopleiding (Amsterdam Director’s Training Program). After studying Theater Science at the University of Amsterdam and the Sorbonne in Paris, she has collaborated as a dramaturge with various artists. She served as the in-house dramaturge for Theatergroep Maccus (now Maas), De Theatercompagnie, and from 2007 to 2021 for Frascati in Amsterdam. She was one of the founders of the online magazine Theater Schrift Lucifer, taught at the University of Amsterdam (Theater Science), Rietveld Academy, and the Toneelacademie Maastricht. In 2021-2022, she worked as an interim advisor for theater, film, and dance at the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Since spring 2022, she has been the program leader of the directing program at the Amsterdamse Academie voor Theater en Dans (Amsterdam Academy for Theater and Dance). She has also written two novels: “Schemerland” (2019) and “Zwerm” (2021), both published by Van Oorschot.
