Chee-han Kartosen-Wong

Chee-Han is an internationally active film editor with a cross-media vision. She edits documentaries, feature films, and commercials for international brands such as Adidas, Nike, and Coca-Cola. Her work includes True Stories of Investing (Discovery Channel) and Uit de Kramp (KRO-NCRV), a three-part TV series about racism. Her first feature film, Happy Palace, directed by Gouden Kalf winner Nicole van Kilsdonk, was a project Chee-Han was closely involved with from the start. The film was officially selected for the Netherlands Film Festival and opened the Cinemasia Festival.

Besides editing, Chee-Han gives talks to media and advertising professionals and guest lectures at universities on editing, diversity, and inclusion. She has been committed to improving the representation of people of color for years. Her anti-Asian racism project, The Invisible Ones, featuring the short awareness film I See I See What You Don’t See, was awarded a Silver Lamp at the ADCN Festival Dutch Creativity Awards.

With her husband, Reza Kartosen-Wong, she founded the social enterprise Bongkar met Wongkar, from which they tell stories that center on diversity and inclusion. They do this, among other things, through (children’s) books. Their first picture book, “Where’s My Noodle Soup?!?”, became a bestseller in the Netherlands. Their latest story about the colonial slavery past in Indonesia will be published later this year.

Chee-Han lives in Amsterdam with her husband and their two sons. Her family and the city are her daily sources of inspiration.
