The internationally renowned artist and filmmaker Fiona Tan was born in Indonesia and grew up in Australia. She currently lives and works in Amsterdam. Over the past twenty-five years her video installations, films and photographic works have gained increasing international acclaim and have been exhibited all over the world.
In 2009 she represented The Netherlands at the Venice Biennial, she has particiipated in Documenta 11, Sao Paolo and Istanbul Biennials as well as many other international exhibitions. Solo exhibitions have taken place at art museums and galleries all over the globe. To date she has written and directed two feature films. History’s Future (2015) was nominated for the Tiger Competition at the International Filmfestival Rotterdam. Ascent (2016) premiered at the Locarno Film Festival. In November 2020 her first mid-career retrospective, With the other hand, will open simultaneously at Kunsthalle Krems and the Museum der Moderne Salzburg.
