Aisha Bosnie (1979) is a documentary researcher and programmer raised in Amsterdam with Aruban and Surinamese roots. With a background in Cultural Anthropology and a strong passion for human interest, her work explores subjects and themes surrounding marginalized communities, Black & Indigenous cultures (whether or not within the diaspora), and invisible, underexposed, and/or erased histories, within a broader context of power structures, identity, and politics.
She began her career working on music programmes about hip-hop culture, before transitioning to documentary (series) research for, among others, VPRO and Omroep Zwart.
In her next step as an emerging filmmaker, she focuses on capturing and archiving oral narratives and traditions, with the aim of making them part of cultural heritage. In addition to oral tradition, she investigates how a different perspective on existing archival material can contribute to the reinterpretation of history and the making visible of underrepresented perspectives.
Aisha is selected for Vrijplaats Archive.
