Ciska Meister is a filmmaker and artist who—in a tragic/fortunate way—is bound by the need to question the implications of the genre and medium in which their work is created. Their work is characterized by a hopeless dedication to a playful yet serious approach, in which they continuously pose unanswerable questions (rarely with a conclusion) and dissect perceived paradoxes (which often remain ambiguous).
Thematically, their work touches upon issues related to the ethics of documentary filmmaking, community-based representation, and the positioning of queer identities within a broader discourse. Their films A Place Where Reality Lies (2022) and The Ozard (2025) have been screened at national and international festivals.
Ciska is selected for Vrijplaats Archive during which they will work on research about a project with Femke Bosma as co-director.
