Martijn Blekendaal is originally a historian and worked as a researcher, director, and editor for various public broadcasters. He is a guest lecturer at the Netherlands Film Academy and directed award-winning documentaries such as De man die achter de horizon keek (2018) and The Invisible Ones (2024).
In 2024, he co-directed and presented the 8-part documentary series Ondergrondse Sporen (Omroep Zwart). In 2023, he directed the 7-part documentary series Van Bahia tot Brooklyn: Caribische verhalen (VPRO).
